Pancha Mukhi Hanuman

श्री हनुमान का यह रूप है – पंचमुखी हनुमान।
मान्यता के अनुशार पंचमुखीहनुमान का अवतार भक्तों का कल्याण करने के लिए हुवा हैं। हनुमान के पांच मुख क्रमश:पूर्व, पश्चिम, उत्तर, दक्षिण और ऊ‌र्ध्व दिशा में प्रतिष्ठित हैं।
पंचमुखीहनुमानजी का अवतार मार्गशीर्ष कृष्णाष्टमी को माना जाता हैं। रुद्र के अवतार हनुमान ऊर्जा के प्रतीक माने जाते हैं। इसकी आराधना से बल, कीर्ति, आरोग्य और निर्भीकता बढती है।

ुसार श्री हनुमान का विराट स्वरूप पांच मुख पांच दिशाओं में हैं। हर रूप एक मुख वाला, त्रिनेत्रधारी यानि तीन आंखों और दो भुजाओं वाला है। यह पांच मुख नरसिंह, गरुड, अश्व, वानर और वराह रूप है। हनुमान के पांच मुख क्रमश:पूर्व, पश्चिम, उत्तर, दक्षिण और ऊ‌र्ध्व दिशा में प्रतिष्ठित माने गएं हैं।
पंचमुख हनुमान के पूर्व की ओर का मुख वानर का हैं। जिसकी प्रभा करोडों सूर्यो के तेज समान हैं। पूर्व मुख वाले हनुमान का पूजन करने से समस्त शत्रुओं का नाश हो जाता है।
पश्चिम दिशा वाला मुख गरुड का हैं। जो भक्तिप्रद, संकट, विघ्न-बाधा निवारक माने जाते हैं। गरुड की तरह हनुमानजी भी अजर-अमर माने जाते हैं।
हनुमानजी का उत्तर की ओर मुख शूकर का है। इनकी आराधना करने से अपार धन-सम्पत्ति,ऐश्वर्य, यश, दिर्धायु प्रदान करने वाल व उत्तम स्वास्थ्य देने में समर्थ हैं। है।
हनुमानजी का दक्षिणमुखी स्वरूप भगवान नृसिंह का है। जो भक्तों के भय, चिंता, परेशानी को दूर करता हैं।
श्री हनुमान का ऊ‌र्ध्वमुख घोडे के समान हैं। हनुमानजी का यह स्वरुप ब्रह्मा जी की प्रार्थना पर प्रकट हुआ था। मान्यता है कि हयग्रीवदैत्य का संहार करने के लिए वे अवतरित हुए। कष्ट में पडे भक्तों को वे शरण देते हैं। ऐसे पांच मुंह वाले रुद्र कहलाने वाले हनुमान बडे कृपालु और दयालु हैं।
हनुमतमहाकाव्य में पंचमुखीहनुमान के बारे में एक कथा हैं।
एक बार पांच मुंह वाला एक भयानक राक्षस प्रकट हुआ। उसने तपस्या करके ब्रह्माजीसे वरदान पाया कि मेरे रूप जैसा ही कोई व्यक्ति मुझे मार सके। ऐसा वरदान प्राप्त करके वह समग्र लोक में भयंकर उत्पात मचाने लगा। सभी देवताओं ने भगवान से इस कष्ट से छुटकारा मिलने की प्रार्थना की। तब प्रभु की आज्ञा पाकर हनुमानजी ने वानर, नरसिंह, गरुड, अश्व और शूकर का पंचमुख स्वरूप धारण किया। इस लिये एसी मान्यता है कि पंचमुखीहनुमान की पूजा-अर्चना से सभी देवताओं की उपासना के समान फल मिलता है। हनुमान के पांचों मुखों में तीन-तीन सुंदर आंखें आध्यात्मिक, आधिदैविक तथा आधिभौतिक तीनों तापों को छुडाने वाली हैं। ये मनुष्य के सभी विकारों को दूर करने वाले माने जाते हैं।
भक्त को शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले हनुमानजी का हमेशा स्मरण करना चाहिए।
विद्वानो के मत से पंचमुखी हनुमानजी की उपासना से जाने-अनजाने किए गए सभी बुरे कर्म एवं चिंतन के दोषों से मुक्ति प्रदान करने वाला हैं।
पांच मुख वाले हनुमानजी की प्रतिमा धार्मिक और तंत्र शास्त्रों में भी बहुत ही चमत्कारिक फलदायी मानी गई है

 बाल समय रबि भक्षि लियो तब, तीनहुँ लोक भयो अँधियारो ।
ताहि सों त्रास भयो जग को, यह संकट काहु सों जात न टारो ॥
देवन आन करि बिनती तब, छाँड़ि दियो रबि कष्ट निवारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 1 ॥

When a child, you gulped the Sun, the three worlds went dark
The world thus got into trouble, A crisis as such none could dispel
The gods then prayed to you, Sparing the sun, you eased their woe

बालि की त्रास कपीस बसै गिरि, जात महाप्रभु पंथ निहारो ।
चौंकि महा मुनि शाप दिया तब, चाहिय कौन बिचार बिचारो ॥
के द्विज रूप लिवाय महाप्रभु, सो तुम दास के शोक निवारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 2 ॥

Scared of Bali, Sugriv dwelt on the hill, Sent you to the Great Lord and return did await
The startled sage’s curse then, And what advice he needed you did deliberate
Guised as a brahmin, you fetched the Great Lord, Thus you relieved the devotee of sorrow

अंगद के संग लेन गये सिय, खोज कपीस यह बैन उचारो ।
जीवत ना बचिहौ हम सो जु, बिना सुधि लाय इहाँ पगु धारो ॥
हेरि थके तट सिंधु सबै तब, लाय सिया-सुधि प्राण उबारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 3 ॥

Alongwith Angad you went to fetch Sita, “Find her”, the ape king did declare
“None of you I’ll spare, “Without her trace if you set in foot here!”
On the seaside when all were sick and tired, you found out Sita and saved their lives thus and so

रावन त्रास दई सिय को सब, राक्षसि सों कहि शोक निवारो ।
ताहि समय हनुमान महाप्रभु, जाय महा रजनीचर मारो ॥
चाहत सीय अशोक सों आगि सु, दै प्रभु मुद्रिका शोक निवारो ।

When Ravan struck fear into Sita, And asked all demonesses to ease his sorrow
Then O Hanuman, Lord the Great, You reached there
And to the huge demons, dealt a death blow; When Sita sought fire from the Ashok tree, Giving her the Lord’s ring, you eased her woe

बाण लग्यो उर लछिमन के तब, प्राण तजे सुत रावण मारो ।
लै गृह बैद्य सुषेन समेत, तबै गिरि द्रोण सु बीर उपारो ॥
आनि सजीवन हाथ दई तब, लछिमन के तुम प्राण उबारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 5 ॥

When an arrow struck Lakshman’s chest, A deathly one that Ravan’s son did shoot
You brought the house and physician Sushen along
Then mount Drona with the shrub you did easily uproot
Arrived on time to hand over Sanjivani then, You helped save Lakshman’s life thus and so

रावण युद्ध अजान कियो तब, नाग कि फाँस सबै सिर डारो ।
श्रीरघुनाथ समेत सबै दल, मोह भयो यह संकट भारो ॥
आनि खगेस तबै हनुमान जु, बंधन काटि सुत्रास निवारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 6 ॥

When Ravan carried on foolish war, And serpent noose over heads of all did throw
Shri Raghunath and the whole corps, Deluded, it dealt a hard blow
Then arrived Garuda, thanks to Hamuman, He cut loose the bonds and ended the woe

बंधु समेत जबै अहिरावन, लै रघुनाथ पाताल सिधारो ।
देबिहिं पूजि भली बिधि सों बलि, देउ सबै मिति मंत्र बिचारो ॥
जाय सहाय भयो तब ही, अहिरावण सैन्य समेत सँहारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 7 ॥

When Ahiravan abducted Raghunath, Along with the younger brother to the nether region,
To propitiate the goddess ritually and offer sacrifice, He called in all for deliberation;
You reached for help at that instant, Ahiravan and the army were then laid low,

काज किये बड़ देवन के तुम, वीर महाप्रभु देखि बिचारो ।
कौन सो संकट मोर गरीब को, जो तुमसों नहिं जात है टारो ॥
बेगि हरो हनुमान महाप्रभु, जो कछु संकट होय हमारो ।
को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि, संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो ॥ 8 ॥

Great feats for the gods you carried out, O Brave, Lord the Great, look and think over
Which crisis besetting poor me, You cannot blow over
O Hanuman, Lord the the Great, take away fast, Any danger towards us that may flow

लाल देह लाली लसे, अरू धरि लाल लंगूर ।
बज्र देह दानव दलन, जय जय जय कपि सूर ॥

Red body anointed with red vermilion, Sporting as long-tailed red Simian;
Thunder-bolt like body that crushes the demons, Hail, hail, hail Kapi the Champion.

Mahavir Mandir

Mahavir Mandir is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located in Patna, Bihar, India. Million of pilgrims visit the temple every year and is the second most visited religious shrine in North India.

The Mahavir Mandir Trusts have the second highest budget in North India after the famous Maa Vaishno Devi shrine. The earning of Mahavir Mandir has gone now up to an average of Rs 1 lakh per day.

Mahavir Mandir, Patna is one of the leading Hanuman temples in the country. Daily thousands of devotees throng the temple and get solace from the worship of Hanumanji. It is a ‘manokamana’ mandir where devotees’ every wish is fulfilled and this is the reason for ever-increasing number of devotees in the temple.

As per the Patna High Court judgment in 1948 the temple exists since time immemorial. But from the scrutiny of historical facts and traditions it appears that this temple was originally established by Swami Balanand, an ascetic of Ramanandi sect in around 1730 A.D.

The main temple has got two idols of Hanumanji one for परित्राणाय साधूनाम् i.e. for the protection of good people and another for विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम् i.e. for the elimination of the wicked persons. The temple belongs to Ramanand sect although from 1900 A.D. it had been in the possession of the Gosain Sanyasis till 1948 A.D.

In 1948 A.D. it was declared a public temple by Patna High Court. A new, magnificent temple was reconstructed between 1983 and 1985 at the old site at the initiative of Kishore Kunal with devotees’ contribution and now it is one of the most magnificent temples in the country.

Kaviyoor Mahadevar Temple

 

KaviyoorMahadevarTemple is a Hindu temple in Kaviyoor, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India dating back over 1000 years. It is commonly called ThrikkaviyoorMahadevaTemple. The main deity is Lord Mahadeva (Shiva and Vishnu) and the Temple is also known for its Hanuman temple. This is one of the famous major temples of Travancore Devaswom Board under Thiruvalla group of temples.

History

Architecture

It stands on a small hillock and is built in the gable style architecture peculiar to Kerala. It is one of the earliest structural temples of Kerala. Several historians, like Stella Kramrich has this opinion. The perfect round Sreekovil with Sandhara style and its peculiar basement clarifies this opinion. The temple with its copper covered roof, golden flag mast and the eighteen steps at the eastern entrance, is one of the most beautiful temples in Kerala. The balickalpura, vaathilmaadam, namaskara mandapam and sreekoivil( sanctum) of this temple are decorated with wood carvings. These sculptures belongs to late sixteenth or early seventeenth century. These carvings are based on puranic texts like Mahabharata and Ramayana. The wood work of this temple was done by local sculptors, belonging to Thekkethil family. Each and every part of this temple radiates architectural splendor. All the 44 Rafter shoes of the main prakara( Sreekoil) is covered with beautifully crafted rafter shoes. The 24 rafters of the Namaskara Mandapam were also covered with rafter shoes, but these pieces are now missing. The Temple has a huge collection of precious ornaments which also shows the artistic excellence of the sculptors of Kaviyoor. These include Swarna prabhamandalam, Golden Nettippattams and ezhunnallippu chatams, Golden pots, Golden Reliefs of Deities, Golden Umbrellas, Golden Chains and Several materials with precious gems.

Festivals

The temple festival is held in December–January of every year. Hanuman Jayanthi, the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman is also celebrated along with the temple festival.

Offering

The main offering to Hanuman at this temple includes Aval Nadyam and Vada Mala. One have to make take a receipt from the receipt counter before making the offering. Aval Nadyam is given on demand while Vada Mala is given after a month or so due to the large number of offerings per day.

Other common offerings like Ganapati Homan and other Hindu rituals are also offered in this Temple.

Karmanghat Hanuman temple (Hyderabad)

 

Karmanghat Hanuman Temple is located at Karmanghat, closer to Sagar Ring Road, it is a temple of Lord Hanuman. It is also said to be one of the oldest temples in the city.

It was built in 12th century A.D (approximately 1143).

When a Kakatiya king went hunting and was resting under a tree, he heard the chanting of Lord Rama’s name. Wondering who it was in the middle of a terrible forest, he discovered a stone vigraha of Lord Hanuman, in seated posture and the voice coming from the vigraha. Having paid his respects, he returned to his capital, and that night, Lord appeared in his dream and asked him to construct a temple.

The temple was built immediately and successive kings ruled it well. About 400 years later, Aurangzeb sent out his armies to all corners of the country to wipe out Hindus and Hindu temples. At this temple, the army couldn’t even step close to the compound wall. When the general reported this to Aurangzeb, he himself went with a crow bar to break down the temple. At the threshold of the temple, he heard a deafening roar rumblning like thunder, and the crowbar slipped from his hands as he was shaking in fear. Then he heard a voice in the heavens “Mandir todna hai rajan, to karo man ghat” (“if u want to break down the temple king, then make ur heart stronger”) which is why the place got the name kar-man-ghat. And to this day, Lord Anjaneya sits peacefully meditating and blessing devotees, as Dhyana Anjaneya Swamy.

Hanuman Garhi Temple, Ayodhya

 

Legendary belief is that Hanuman Garhi is the place where Hanuman used to inhabit. But history reveals that this place was donated by the Nawab of Avadh and during the middle of the 10th century a temple was constructed at the site by one of the courtesans of Nawab.

One of the popular shrines in Ayodhya Hanuman Garhi is believed to be the fulfiller of every wish and hence it is often crowded with the fortune seekers. Hanuman Garhi depicts as a cave temple where a flight of 76 steps fetches the devotee in to its holy premises. The inner sanctum embellishes the idol of infant hanuman in his mother’s lap and though the idol is quite unimpressive the devotees earnestly believe that it would get them all the boons they ask for.

This place is a hub of all type of visitors since the entire surroundings are dotted with a good number of edifices. Hanuman Garhi resembles that of a four sided fort with circular bastions on its each corner. Its structural elegance and artistic grandeur make the devotee and the visitor spell bound.

श्रीगुरु चरण् सरोजरज, निजमनमुकुर सुधार ।
बरणौ रघुबर बिमल यश, जो दायक फलचार ॥

Meaning:
With the Dust of the Lotus Feet of Sri Gurudeva, I Clean the Mirror of my Mind.
I Narrate the Sacred Glory of Sri Raghubar (Sri Rama Chandra), who Bestows the Four Fruits of Life (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha).

बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके, सुमिरौं पवन कुमार ।
बल बुद्धिविद्या देहु मोहिं, हरहु कलेश विकार ॥
Buddhi-Hiina Tanu Jaanike, Sumirau Pavan Kumaar |
Bala Buddhi-Vidyaa Dehu Mohi, Harahu Kalesha Vikaar ||

Meaning:
Considering Myself as Ignorant, I Meditate on You, O Pavan Kumar (Hanuman).
Bestow on me Strength, Wisdom and Knowledge, and Remove my Afflictions and Blemishes.

Meaning:
Victory to You, O Hanuman, Who is the Ocean of Wisdom and Virtue,
Victory to the Lord of the Monkeys, Who is the Enlightener of the Three Worlds.

रामदूत अतुलित बलधामा ।
अंजनि-पुत्र पवन-सुत नामा ॥
Raama-Duut Atulit Bala-Dhaamaa |
Anjani-Putra Pavan-Sut Naamaa ||

Meaning:
You are the Messenger of Sri Rama possessing Immeasurable Strength,
You are Known as Anjani-Putra (son of Anjani) and Pavana-Suta (son of Pavana, the wind-god).

महाबीर बिक्रम बजरंगी ।
कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी ॥
Mahaa-biir Bikrama Bajarangii |
Kumati Nivaar Sumati Ke Sangii ||

Meaning:
You are a Great Hero, extremely Valiant, and body as strong as Thunderbolt,
You are the Dispeller of Evil Thoughts and Companion of Good Sense and Wisdom.

कंचन बरण बिराज सुबेशा ।
कानन कुंडल कुंचित केशा ॥
Kancan Barann Biraaj Subeshaa |
Kaanan Kunddala Kuncita Keshaa ||

Meaning:
You possess a Golden Hue, and you are Neatly Dressed,
You wear Ear-Rings and have beautiful Curly Hair.

5.

हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै ।
काँधे मूँज जनेऊ साजै ॥
Haath Bajra Au Dhvajaa Biraajai |
Kaandhe Muuj Janeuu Saajai ||

Meaning:
You hold the Thunderbolt and the Flag in your Hands.
You wear the Sacred Thread across your Shoulder.

6.

शंकर-सुवन केशरी-नन्दन ।
तेज प्रताप महा जग-वंदन ॥
Shankar-Suvan Kesharii-Nandan |
Teja Prataap Mahaa Jag-Vandan ||

Meaning:
You are the Incarnation of Lord Shiva and Son of Kesari,
You are Adored by the whole World on account of your Great Strength and Courage.

7.

विद्यावान गुणी अति चातुर ।
राम काज करिबे को आतुर ॥
Vidyaavaan Gunnii Ati Caatur |
Raam Kaaj Karibe Ko Aatur ||

Meaning:
You are Learned, Virtuous and Extremely Intelligent,
You are always Eager to do the Works of Sri Rama.

8.

प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया ।
रामलषण सीता मन बसिया ॥
Prabhu Caritra Sunibe Ko Rasiyaa |
Raamalassann Siitaa Man Basiyaa ||

Meaning:
You Delight in Listening to the Glories of Sri Rama,
You have Sri Rama, Sri Lakshmana and Devi Sita Dwelling in your Heart.

9.

सूक्ष्म रूपधरि सियहिं दिखावा ।
विकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा ॥
Suukssma Ruupadhari Siyahi Dikhaavaa |
Vikatt Ruup Dhari Lamka Jaraavaa ||

Meaning:
You Appeared before Devi Sita Assuming a Diminutive Form (in Lanka),
You Assumed an Awesome Form and Burnt Lanka.

10.

भीम रूप धरि असुर सँहारे ।
रामचन्द्र के काज सँवारे ॥
Bhiim Ruup Dhari Asur Samhaare |
Raamacandra Ke Kaaj Samvaare ||

Meaning:
You Assumed a Gigantic Form and Destroyed the Demons,
Thereby Accomplishing the Task of Sri Rama.

11.

लाय सजीवन लखन जियाये ।
श्री रघुबीर हरषि उर लाये ॥
Laay Sajiivan Lakhan Jiyaaye |
Shrii Raghubiir Harassi Ur Laaye ||

Meaning:
You Brought the Sanjivana herb and Revived Sri Lakshmana.
Because of this Sri Rama Embraced You overflowing with Joy.

12.

रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बडाई ।
तुम मम प्रिय भरतहिसम भाई ॥
Raghupati Kiinhii Bahut Baddaaii |
Tum Mam Priya Bharatahisam Bhaaii ||

Meaning:
Sri Rama Praised You Greatly,
And said: “You are as dear to me as my brother Bharata”.

13.

सहस बदन तुम्हरो यश गावैं ।
अस कहि श्रीपति कण्ठ लगावैं ॥
Sahas Badan Tumharo Yash Gaavai |
As Kahi Shriipati Kanntth Lagaavai ||

Meaning:
“The Thousand Headed Seshnag Sings Your Glory”,
Said Sri Rama to You taking you in his Embrace.

14.

सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीशा ।
नारद शारद सहित अहीशा ॥
Sanakaadik Brahmaadi Muniishaa |
Naarad Shaarad Sahit Ahiishaa ||

Meaning:
Sanaka and other Sages, Lord Brahma and other Gods,
Narada, Devi Saraswati and Seshnag …

15.

यम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँते ।
कवि कोविद कहि सकैं कहाँते ॥
Yam Kuber Digapaal Jahaate |
Kavi Kovid Kahi Sakai Kahaate ||

Meaning:
Yama (god of death), Kubera (god of wealth), Digpalas (the guardian deities),
Poets and Scholars have not been able to Describe Your Glories in full.

16.

तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा ।
राम मिलाय राजपद दीन्हा ॥
Tum Upakaar Sugriivahi Kiinhaa |
Raam Milaay Raajapad Diinhaa ||

Meaning:
You Rendered a great Help to Sugriva.
You Introduced him to Sri Rama and thereby Gave back his Kingdom.

17.

तुम्हरो मंत्र विभीषण माना ।
लंकेश्वर भये सब जग जाना ॥
Tumharo Mamtra Vibhiissann Maanaa |
Lamkeshvar Bhaye Sab Jag Jaanaa ||

Meaning:
Vibhisana Followed your Advice,
And the Whole World Knows that he became the King of Lanka.

18.

युग सहस्र योजन पर भानू ।
लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू ॥
Yuga Sahasra Yojana Para Bhaanuu |
Liilyo Taahi Madhura Phala Jaanuu ||

Meaning:
The Sun which was at a distance of Sixteen Thousand Miles,
You Swallowed It (the Sun) thinking it to be a Sweet Fruit.

19.

प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं ।
जलधि लाँधि गये अचरजनाहीं ॥
Prabhu Mudrikaa Meli Mukh Maahii |
Jaladhi Laadhi Gaye Acarajanaahii ||

Meaning:

Meaning:
Sri Rama is the King of the Tapaswis (devotees engaged in penances).
And You (Hanuman) Fulfill all Works of Sri Rama (as a caretaker).

Devotees who have any Other Desires,

You are the Saviour of the Saints and Sages.
You Destroy the Demons, O Beloved of Sri Rama.

You can Give the Eight Siddhis (supernatural powers) and Nine Nidhis (types of devotions).
Mother Janaki (Devi Sita) gave this Boon to you.

Meaning:
You hold the Essence of Devotion to Sri Rama.
You Always Remain as the Servant of Raghupati (Sri Rama).

Through Devotion to You, one gets Sri Rama,
Thereby getting Free of the Sorrows of Life after Life.

अन्त काल रघुपति पुर जाई ।
जहाँ जन्म हरिभक्त कहाई ॥

Jahaa Janma Hari-Bhakta Kahaaii ||

Meaning:
At the End one Goes to the Abode of Raghupati (Sri Rama).
Where one is Known as the Devotee of Hari.

और देवता चित्त न धरई ।
हनुमत सेइ सर्व सुख करई ॥
Aur Devataa Citta Na Dharaii |
Hanumat Sei Sarva Sukh Karaii ||

Meaning:
Even without Worshipping any Other Deities,
One Gets All Happiness who Worships Sri Hanuman.

Sri Anjaneeyam Swamy Temple in Nanganallu

HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE

Sri Maruti Bhakta samajan trust, consisting of people with high spiritual beliefs, wished for this temple. with the blessings of Sri Ragavendra swami and Sri Kanchi Paramacharyar entrenched the 32 foot idol of Sri Anjaneyar in 1989 and consummated the Kumbabishekam in 1995. The distinguished factor of the 32 feet idol is that it was molded out of a single rock.

DIVINESS OF THE TEMPLE

The Bhaktha Anjaneya temple at Nanganallur in Chennai is known for bestowing better health to the devotees. The idol of the central image is 32 feet in height making it one of its own kind. Sri Rama, Sri Lakshmana and Seetha with Sri Anjaneyar, Sri Vinayagar, Sri Ragavendra and Sri Krishna with his consorts Bhama and Rukmini are also indoctrinated here. The idol is believed to have special power and is considered a healer.

Nanganallur – the satellite town to the city of Chennai, formerly Madras, located about 10 Km from the city and 5 Km from the Airport, is now known as the town housing the 32 feet Viswaroopa Adhivyadhihara Sri Bhaktha Anjaneya Swamy. The Temple has indeed become a landmark and no tourist bus in that route skips the Temple. The Temple is accessible by road and by suburban trains stopping at Pazhavanthangal Railway station.

Namakkal Anjaneya Temple

 

 

Lord Anjaneya temple, this temple has more than 500 Years history.

Namakkal – History on stone Places of Worship.

 

If it is temples, it has to be Tamil Nadu. True. If it is art, it has to be Cholas or Pallavas or Pandyas. Who said so? The artistic history of Tamil Nadu is not only confined to the Pallavas, Cholas and the Pandyas. There was another sect of rulers known as Adiamans, who of course were not as legendary as the rest. Namakkal, a temple devoted to Anjaneya can be attributed to a successor of the Adiaman clan.

 

Namakkal is a sacred place that contains both charm and history. The fort of Namakkal is guarded by a giant Anjaneya. The idol is so famous that it has been known as Namakkal Hanuman. There is also another Anjaneya on the banks of the tank, Kamalalaya. The difference between both the idols is that while the former is massive the latter is a wonderful piece of art.

The offering made by devotees to this temple is mainly garlands of cakes made of gram or the vadai malais. The striking attribute of this temple is that there is no roof above the God. The sun dries Him and the rain drenches Him. But He stands there, tall and commanding. There is also a bell on His tail and a sword on His hips.

Also spotted is a Narasimha temple opposite to Hanuman. It looks as if Hanuman is under the direct praise of Narasimha. The Narasimha is eight armed holding a prayoga charka, a sword, a conch and a bow. Hiranyakashipu is seen on His lap being torn into pieces. Hiranya can be seen helpless before the claws of Narasimha. There is also another exquisite piece of art in the temple. It is that of Lakshmi Narayana. This sculpture has been very elaborately carved and even the conch and the discus look outstanding.

In this temple, Mahavishnu is not resting on the Adisesha but seated. On either side are Brahma and Narasimha. There is also a place for Lord Shiva in the temple, symbolising the Shiva-Vishnu unity.

The story behind the origins of this temple goes as follows. When Mahavishnu slew Hiranyakashipu His rage did not subside. He was all hot with anger that even the Devas were petrified. They thought that if Vishnu were to remain angry forever, then the world would son come to an end. They approached refuge at the feet of Lakshmi Narayana. In order to please the Devas, the Lord took the form of both Narasimha and Lakshmi Narayana, the latter being a sober manifestation.

There is an eye-catching piece of art in this temple of both Shiva and Vishnu in the same idol. The left side of the idol has Vishnu from the summit to the toe while the right has Shiva. The uniqueness of this idol is that Shiva holds a snake in His forehand. This sight is very rare as there is no other temple which exhibits this wonder.
